Why We're Gathering
Democratic regression rarely happens all at once—it happens in stages through a series of smaller, quiet changes. Over the past two years, decisions by the Ontario government have steadily eroded transparency, human dignity, and the rule of law.
These shifts directly impact daily life across our communities:
- Laws that don’t apply to everyone: Allowing the province to exempt chosen companies and projects from provincial laws and municipal bylaws.
- Undermined Transparency: Restricting public access to freedom of information records.
- Undermined Governance: Replacing locally elected school board trustees with provincial supervisors.
- Criminalized Poverty: Fining and targeting unhoused people instead of prioritizing housing and health care solutions.
Protecting our democracy requires more than concern. It requires showing up when it matters
